The Good Nightie sells ethically made, good quality, excellent value nighties...
Lucy Ogilvie-Grant is a long-time designer and maker of things. About five years ago, she began to make nighties in earnest. Francesca Fairbairn is a sustainability consultant. And she has done a lot of spreadsheets.
Lucy designs the fabrics and nighties. She oversees the manufacture and does most of the selling. Francesca crunches the numbers. Both place a great deal of emphasis on the importance of fair trade and organic products.
Francesca used to live in Bangalore, and found a local stitching factory where the stitchers are paid a fair wage and their skills developed. To find out more about the factory we use in India, have a look at their website. Lucy used to live in Sri Lanka, where she found a local stitching factory that pays a fair wage.. etc. To find out more about the Sri Lankan factory, have a look here.
Lucy travels to India and/or Sri Lanka about twice a year to source new fabrics, visit the factories, and talk to the stitchers. She also researches and visits various workshops, fabric printing rooms, vegetarian silk producers and organic cotton suppliers - you can find out more about her travels on the Good Nightie blog, coming soon.
